Community Shop Update

SIGNIFICANT MILESTONES IN PLACE

In the past few weeks, significant milestones are now in place for Gorsley Community Shop to become a reality. We have now recruited our Part Time Manager, we have had our Post Office application accepted and we have a confirmed opening date.

OPENING DATE: SATURDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER.

   It is still unconfirmed if the Post Office Local will be open at the same time as this will be in the hands of the Post Office Ltd., but we will continue to have the Mobile Post Office visiting us until we do.

A lot of work now needs to be undertaken to renovate and fit out the premises ready for the opening as well as meeting and training the volunteers. This is all going to happen rather quickly in the next few weeks and months as we put in place the plans that have been worked on now for a while - keep an eye out for emails, adverts and 'goings on' so you don't miss anything.

                              SHOP MANAGER - JACKY BENTHAM

We are really excited that Jacky has become our Shop Manager. Jacky has lived in Gorsley since 2002 (but has been a local for longer) and comes with a wealth of experience that the shop will benefit from.

Her passion and vision for the shop is fantastic and she is already working hard alongside the steering team to have everything in place ready for opening. Jacky is now keen to make contact with volunteers and suppliers

                              VOLUNTEER MEETING

                              Thank you to all those who have signed up to volunteer in the shop.

To date we now have over 40 people signed up which is fantastic. Over the coming weeks and months Jacky and the team will be arranging various times to meet with you (and others who may be interested) to identify the various areas people may be willing to help.

FIRST VOLUNTEER MEETING: WEDNESDAY 27TH JUNE, 2-3PM Lighthouse, Gorsley Baptist Church (There will be other meetings arranged in July if you are unable to make

it)

                                                      FUNDRAISING

Thank you to everyone who has pledged a donation towards the necessary funds for the shop to open. With knowing we have the manager and the Post Office Local confirmed, we are now in a position to receive the funds. Please keep a look out for a seperate email with instructions on how to do this.

We are still £3,000 short of our £35,000 target so if you have yet to make a pledge and would like to financially support the set up of the shop please pledge a donation (all pledges will be kept confidential).

                      

                              DIRECTORS

                              Gorsley Community Shop Ltd. is now formed. This company will be a separate entity in its own right, where all profits are fed back into the shop or used for community projects. It will be run by a maximum of

8 directors that will protect the long-term viability of the shop and will actively listen to the wishes of the community. We have yet to have all the Directors in place so if you feel you could serve the community by undertaking such a role (or want to know more) please contact

                             

The Mobile Post Office continues to visit the Gorsley Baptist Church (upper) car park on:

Wednesday 2.30-3.30pm*
